top of the bandhavgarh hill, we can see Bandhavgarh Fort. There is no
records remain to show when Bandhavgarh Fort was constructed. It is
thought, however, to be some 2,000 years old, and there are references
to it in the ancient books.the Narad-Panch Ratra and the Siva Purana.
Various dynasties have ruled this fort: for example, the Maghas from
the 1st century AD, the Vakatakas from the 3rd century; the Sengars
from the 5th century and the Kalchuris from the 10th century. In the
13th century AD, the Baghels took over, ruling from Bandhavgarh until

last inhabitants deserted the fort in 1935. About 39 ancient caves are

Best time to visit Bandhavgarh :
Park is open for visitors from Oct. to June. Our experience says Feb - Mar - April is good time to visit Bandhavgarh if you are interested in tiger photography tours. During this time visibility is good due to dryness in forest. For budgeted tourists, May - June is good time as during this time one can enjoy special summer discounts, offered by Bandhavgarh resorts & lodges but severe heat poses problem during afternoon safaris. Those who are interested
in lush green jungle and birding, may prefer to visit in months Nov - Dec - Jan. December is peak season, specially last week of month due to Christmas festival, New year eves and winter holidays in schools of India.
